This was the Bair Gutsman Race that we did at the beginning of August. You start in Fruit Heights and go up Bair Canyon. You get to the top which is basically the 2 big ball towers you see above Farmington and then you run part way down Farmington Canyon. On the website it says that it is between 12 and 14 miles depending on how many times you get lost! This is the 5 of us at the start.
Ryan hiking in the ferns. You have to hike through these ferns about 2/3 of the way up. It is crazy that it is so hard to see the path through them even after a bunch of people have before you. They are so thick and tall.
This is me going up through the ferns. This path was a little more clear.
This is right before you go up the really steep part that they call "death row." It is pretty steep and long. You keep thinking that you are almost there and then you see another part that you have to climb.

This is at the top of the canyon. The view was amazing. We kept a good consistant pace hiking up the canyon and then ran down the dirt road of Farmington Canyon.
This is also at the top looking a little bit more south.
We finished in just over 3 hours. We were so close to being under, maybe next time. We both enjoyed this race and would do it again. It is a lot of fun to train and run together.
Stephanie finished a few minutes before Ryan and I. Mom and Andrew came in a little while after us. Andrew did this without any training at all and wasn't even that sore the next day, CRAZY! My Mom finished #1 in her age division. She was right in the middle of her age group according to age so she totally beat out the women younger than her. Way to go MOM!
We loved the back of this trailer that they use in the race, and yes they really do have search and rescue on hand and doing the race too. This was a race that Stephanie talked us into doing. We were a bit nervous since we have never really done anything like this (trail running). But we all enjoyed it and would definitely do it again!
